Why Create a Barcode?
A barcode stores product, asset or tracking data in a pattern any scanner can read in a split second.
- Label retail products with standard EAN and UPC codes that any point of sale can scan.
- Track inventory, assets and documents with internal CODE128 or CODE39 labels.
- Print crisp vector barcodes for packaging, tickets and shipping labels.
- Generate codes instantly in your browser, with no signup and nothing uploaded.
How to Create a Barcode
Step 1: Choose a Format and Enter Your Value
Pick the symbology your scanner or supplier requires, then type the data to encode. The preview and a format hint update as you type.
Tip: retail products usually need EAN-13 or UPC-A, while internal labels work well with CODE128.
Step 2: Fine-Tune the Barcode
Adjust the bar width, height, margin and font size, set the bar and background colours, and choose whether the value is printed below or above the bars.
Tip: keep a strong contrast between the bars and the background and leave enough margin around the code.
Step 3: Test and Download
Scan the preview to confirm it reads correctly, then download a PNG for screens or an SVG that stays sharp for printing at any size.
Tip: use SVG for labels and packaging, and PNG when a fixed pixel size is all you need.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the barcode generator free?
Yes. Create and download as many barcodes as you like, free, with no account, no signup and no watermark.
Will my barcodes expire?
No. The value is encoded directly into the image, so the barcode is a static, self-contained file that works forever and never points to a server.
Are my values uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything is generated locally in your browser with JavaScript. Your data never leaves your device.
Which barcode format should I choose?
For retail products use EAN-13, EAN-8 or UPC-A. For internal labels, CODE128 is the most flexible and compact, and CODE39 is widely supported. Use the hint under the field to see what each format accepts.
What is the difference between EAN and UPC?
UPC-A is the 12-digit standard used mainly in North America, while EAN-13 is the 13-digit standard used elsewhere. Both are read by the same scanners.
Can I print the barcode?
Yes. Download the SVG for perfectly sharp vector output at any size, or a high-scale PNG for fixed-size printing. Both are print ready.
Why does my barcode not scan?
The usual causes are low contrast, a bar width too small for the printer resolution, or too little quiet zone around the code. Increase the bar width and margin, and use dark bars on a light background.
Can I use these barcodes commercially?
Yes. Every barcode you generate is yours to use anywhere, including on commercial products, with no attribution required.
