How to Make an ID Photo
Step 1: Add your portrait
Drop a clear, front-facing photo with even lighting into the upload area. A phone selfie works if the face is well lit and unobstructed.
Tip: the head should be centred and looking straight at the camera, with a neutral expression.
Step 2: Choose the document and country
Pick your document type and country — the studio loads the exact size, head-height range, eye-line band and background rule automatically.
Tip: use Auto-fit face to snap the head to the required height, then fine-tune by dragging and zooming.
Step 3: Clean up and export
Remove the background with one click of on-device AI, fix the lighting, then download the single photo, a full printable sheet, or everything as a ZIP with a PDF.
Tip: print sheets at 100% scale so the photo is exactly the legal size.
Frequently Asked Questions
What size is a passport photo?
It depends on the country. The US and India use 2×2 in, most of the EU, UK, Australia and Japan use 35×45 mm, Canada uses 50×70 mm and China uses 33×48 mm. Pick your country and the studio sets the exact size, head height and background for you.
Are these photos accepted by authorities?
The studio follows the published ICAO and national specifications for size, head height, eye position and background, but acceptance is always decided by the receiving authority. Always check the current rules before you submit.
How do you remove the background?
An on-device AI model (ISNet) segments the person from the background, then composites them on the plain background your document requires — white or light. Nothing is uploaded and the model is cached after the first run.
Can I use a selfie from my phone?
Yes, as long as the face is well lit, sharply focused and fully visible. Avoid harsh shadows, strong filters and tilted angles, and keep a neutral expression with the mouth closed.
How many photos fit on one sheet?
On a 4×6 in photo paper you usually fit 6 to 8 passport photos, on A4 you can fit well over 20. The sheet panel shows the exact number for your paper and spacing before you download.
What does the compliance check do?
It measures your image against the selected preset: whether the source resolution is high enough, whether the head height and eye position fall inside the required range, and whether the background and exposure look correct. Green means compliant, amber means borderline, red means fix it.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Cropping, enhancement, background removal, compliance analysis and export all run inside your browser on a canvas. Your photo never leaves your device.
Can I make a custom size?
Yes. Choose the Custom preset and enter any width, height and DPI in millimetres, inches or pixels — perfect for uncommon document sizes.
Does it print at the right size?
Yes. Sheets are generated at 150–600 DPI on real paper dimensions, so as long as you print at 100% scale (with “fit to page” disabled) the photo comes out at the exact legal size.
Do you keep my photos?
No. There is no server, no account and no storage. Close the tab and everything is gone.
